Terms & Conditions

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the Sorta mobile application (the “App”) and associated services. Please read them carefully.


By accessing or using the App, you confirm that you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Who We Are

The App is provided by Sorta ASBL, a non-profit organization based in Luxembourg.

Purpose: Sorta helps individuals sort their waste correctly and sustainably by offering location-specific recycling instructions and educational content, powered by AI.

2. Use of the Application

2.1. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use the App. If you are younger than 16, you may only use the App with the verified consent of your parent or legal guardian.

2.2. Registration

You may use some features without registering, but creating an account allows you to track your impact. You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials.

2.3. Restrictions

You agree not to:

  • Use the app in violation of any laws or regulations

  • Post offensive, illegal, or infringing content

  • Attempt to reverse engineer or disrupt the App

  • Share misleading waste information

3. Content and Usage

You may upload content (e.g. images of waste or packaging) to help us improve waste recognition algorithms. By uploading content (such as images or packaging photos), you grant Sorta a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual license to use your content solely for educational, research, and operational purposes, including AI training and reporting. Your content will not be resold or commercially exploited. You retain all ownership rights and may request removal at any time by contacting us.

4. Intellectual Property

Sorta owns all rights to the App design, name, branding, and original content. You may not reuse, copy, or modify any part of the App without express permission.

5. Privacy

Your data is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect and use your information. We do not sell your data. We do not collect personal information beyond what is required to run the App and calculate impact.

6. AI and Data Collection

Sorta uses artificial intelligence to identify and classify waste based on images or barcodes. Data you contribute (e.g. photos of packaging) may be used to train and improve our model. This data is anonymized and never linked to personal information.

7. App Availability and Changes

We strive to keep the app up to date and functional, but we do not guarantee it will always be available or error-free.
 

Sorta reserves the right to:

  • Change features or functionality

  • Temporarily suspend service

  • Update these Terms with 30 days’ notice
     

If we make significant changes to the App or these Terms, we will notify you in advance via in-app notifications, email, or by posting a notice on our website.

8. Limitation of Liability

The App is provided “as is,” without any warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sorta shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including but not limited to data loss or misinterpretation of sorting instructions.
 

However, this limitation does not exclude or limit liability for fraud, gross negligence, or for any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury.

If applicable, Sorta’s total liability shall be limited to the amount (if any) paid by you to use the App.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account for violating these Terms or abusing the platform. You can stop using the App at any time.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. In the event that a dispute cannot be resolved amicably, it shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Luxembourg City.

11. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain valid and enforceable.

12. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Sorta regarding the App and supersede any prior agreements.
